Fun Friday Finds

While browsing online today I came across some cheerful accessories to share.

Rug to Riches

I've had this rug that is under our dining table for a long time. I think I only paid $17 for it at Garden Ridge and I've always thought it looked too dark. I would like to get something to brighten up the space. Here is my room now:

It's a tough room too because it's right next to the kitchen, so I have two different colored tables right next to each other.

I would also like to change the table runner and accessories around, but for now I'm looking for a rug. Here are some I like although I'll probably end up looking at Garden Ridge or Old Time Pottery for something similar, but cheaper:

So what do you guys think? I want something brighter, but not too busy. (The black and red Target one is probably a bit much.)  Or should I get rid of the rug and not have one at all there?

Delightful Dining

Since I haven't posted any room inspiration pictures in several days, here are desired dining spaces to delight your eyes:

Home Goods, how did I live without you?

I kept seeing posts on blogs about accessories and other fun home decor items people had bought at Home Goods. However, I had never been to one of their stores since the nearest one is over 30 miles away.

On our way back from our weekend trip I convinced my husband to stop there so I could see what they have. While hubby waited in the car (for almost an hour, oops!) I happily browsed the aisles full of delightful decor and elegant accessories. While I only came out of the store with one purchase, I had to pull myself away from the lamps, bright dishes, and beautiful pillows. I know I will be back to visit that store.

Here's my one purchase, a fun box to store the TV remotes in to keep them tidy in the living room.

Of course everything goes better with a cat.

Recovering from a four day weekend

My husband and I took an extra day off to have a four day weekend. We made a trip to visit several of our grandparents. After stopping to see hubby's grandparents we continued down to my grandma's house. She lives on a farm on the river with lots of trees and fields. While there we fed the neighbor's calf that my grandma feeds twice a day. I lived right by my grandparents when I was little, so I used to spend a lot of time miking cows, feeding calves, and cuddling barn cats. It was nice to feed a baby calf again, they are too cute. My hubby and I took turns feeding him.

We also took a walk down to the creek. On our way back, this snake had slid across our path, blocking the road. It's a poisonous copperhead too! We threw rocks at trying to get it to go away, but it just sat there and stared at us. Finally we inched around off the road and ran past it. We kept our eyes on the road on the way back to carefully watch out for more snakes.

Lovely Lilies

I'm so excited to see that my asiatic lilies have started to bloom. I just planted them this year and I thought they wouldn't bloom until summer, but two of the four plants are bursting with color.

So far this seems to be a plant the rabbits don't nibble on. Unfortunately, they appear to love phlox because they have all disappeared. Here's a member of the guilty party. Don't be fooled by the cute face.

Anyone else have to fight the rabbits with their garden?

Weekend of Bright Inspiration

I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day weekend as we celebrate with friends and family. Keep those in the armed forces and those who have lost loved ones in the continuing fight for freedom in your thoughts and prayers. Here is a collection of fresh and cheerful rooms to browse, all from Coastal Living.
